What We're Playing: Alex Truell

While the movement across the FaB community seems to be toward CC, I'm currently wading into the deep end of Blitz. Previously, I'd dabbled in Blitz builds only as budget options for exploring alternate strategies or as an excuse to play the CRU heroes restricted to the format. But with a burgeoning scene starting in my area, there's suddenly a reason to take Blitz seriously.

I've built (or re-built) a fair number of decks in the past 2 weeks, from Benji to Kayo to Bravo, but my focus has definitely been on Kassai. I've always loved the Cintari Sabers and the strategy they encourage- I forced them on Dorinthea for the entire CRU meta- so finally realizing their full potential with their intended owner was a foregone conclusion.

While I drew a lot of inspiration for Kieran's timely feature, I've done a few things differently in my Kassai build. For one, I'm currently obsessed with Brandish, a natural fit for a Cintari deck. If it doesn't draw a block, Brandish pushes your Saber up to that obnoxious "3, or 4 if you block wrong". Running it in Blue and Yellow gives it a good 2nd use as your pitch card for the turn.

I've also opted to focus on Valiant Dynamo (which I bought outright just for this deck- driving home that Blitz was no longer a budget format for me). This Legendary equipment probably suits Kassai better than any other Warrior, and gives me a little more freedom to explore generic cards- while shoring up my ability to efficiently block 4s!

Finally, I've got to give a shoutout to Coax a Commotion. This card was my signature spice back in the CRU era, appearing in 2 of my main decks. But changes to Ranger and Warrior with MON sent all 6 copies back to my extras box. Thankfully, Coax found a new home in Kassai, where it puts in major work as a flexible and unexpected chain closer, and puts opponents in a no-good-block situation.

If you're interested in a decklist, I've got it shared over at FABDB. But note, I've only got a few games with Kassai under my belt, and none with this precise decklist- so don't mistake me for an authority!
